28 Newly Accepted Journals in Web of Science — June 2026 (Full List + What PhD Scholars Must Know Before Submitting)
Web of Science Core Collection welcomed 28 more journals from Clarivate in June 2026. All these new journals have been added via the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) category. These journals include engineering, life science, environment, social sciences, and humanities, among other fields, with journal publishers such as Springer Nature, MDPI, IEEE, Elsevier, BMJ, and Oxford University Press. Impact Factors are not assigned to newly indexed journals, which have to wait for a minimum period of two years to become eligible for consideration under the Science Citation Index Expanded and JCR Impact Factor calculation.

Important Note Before Submission: The Crucial Difference Between ESCI & SCIE
This is where most PhD students tend to make a costly blunder. All the above-listed 28 journals gained entry into WoS through ESCI – Emerging Sources Citation Index. This does not mean that it is a SCIE journal, nor does it have an impact factor. Below are the implications of each ranking:

What this means practically: In case of mentioning “SCIE/SSCI-indexed journal” in the PhD completion/promotion regulation policy of your university, publication in an ESCI-indexed journal – even from prestigious publishers such as Springer Nature or IEEE – would not meet the requirement of the regulation. It is important to check with the university ordinance rather than with the journal’s marketing department.
Indian academics who follow the UGC criteria should check with their university regarding whether the university considers the ESCI indexing to be at par with UGC CARE List Group 1 publications. Most do, but the answer might vary depending upon the institution and the State. How to Verify Any Journal Before You Submit
Never believe anything that the journal website or LinkedIn claims about indexing. To confirm indexation status in Web of Science, you must use these 5 tips:
Tip #1: Head over to mjl.clarivate.com (Web of Science Master Journal List). Look up the journal name or E-ISSN.
Tip #2: Make sure which collection the journal belongs to – SCIE, SSCI, AHCI, ESCI, or CPCI. The only meaning of ESCI is the lack of an Impact Factor.
Tip #3: Take a note of the “since” number – when the journal was included in the database. ESCI journals have to stay there for two full calendar years before getting an IF.
Tip #4: Verify the publisher’s reputation on publicationethics.org (COPE). All June 2026 additions belong to reputable publishers, but it’s still a good habit to develop.
Tip #5: Check the APC waiver policy, if it’s a budget issue for you. Many ESCI journals published by small academic societies and non-Western institutions grant full waivers to scholars from India and other LMICs.
